Currently Assistant Professor in Physical Education at Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi, Dr Meenakshi Pahuja has had a prolific swimming career. She was a three-time champion at the national games and won a medal for India in the 400 metres Individual Medley at the 1996 Asia Pacific Age Group swimming championships in Busan, South Korea. In 2006, Dr Pahuja began marathon swimming, participating in events around the world and winning several medals. She is an outspoken advocate for increasing public and government support for Indian athletes, especially female athletes. In 2018, she received the Nari Shakti Puraskar award (India's highest civilian award for women) from President Ram Nath Kovind.
